Chinsurah

P1160315P1160312
Armenians settled in Chinsurah in 1645 after the Dutch. Church was built in 1697 and was dedicated to St.John the Baptist. This Church is the second oldest church in Bengal. Calcutta Armenian Church Committee is taking care of it. British came last and erected a clock tower in the heart of the town with the clock still ticking.
One is not allowed to take pictures from inside the campus of the church but it is difficult to prevent someone in present time, when high rise buildings are coming up around the prohibited place.
