Idols of Hindu goddesses are used to immersed in water after the festival is over with much fanfare in different parts of Bengal. People feel lucky if the site is near a river and specially if it is holy Ganges. Thousands and thousands of idol are immersed in this river every year spread over the years. No one bothers of pollution and long term effect.
